Access and approval

your journey towards quality education at the UAB Vocational Training Centre.

The first crucial step to access the CFGS is the official recognition of your foreign studies.

Official recognition is a procedure that allows you to validate non-university degrees or studies you have taken abroad with equivalent Spanish qualifications and recognise their official validity in Spain.

Is official recognition the same as validation or equivalence?

They are different procedures. Official recognition implies the equivalence with the degree required by our educational system. Validation means the declaration of their equivalence for the purposes of continuing studies in a Spanish educational centre.

The equivalence of foreign university studies from higher education institutions outside Spain is valid at an academic, not professional, level. It is sought for studies that do not qualify for the exercise of a regulated profession or when it is simply necessary to accredit the academic level.

In order to be officially recognised, foreign studies must meet the following requirements:

  • The study must have official validity in the educational system of the foreign country.
  • If the studies have been carried out in a foreign centre located in Spain, this centre must be duly authorised to teach these studies by the competent Spanish educational administration.
  • The degree must guarantee that studies have actually passed in accordance with the educational system of the country that issues it. For the purposes of its official recognition in Spain, a foreign degree obtained by official recognition, validation or recognition of another degree obtained in a third country is not acceptable.
  • There must be sufficient equivalence with the studies or Spanish qualification of reference, both at an academic level and in the duration and content of the studies required.
  • Foreign studies must have been successfully completed in the educational system of the other country. The validation of individual subjects is not accepted.
  • The interested party must not previously have obtained the same degree or the same studies whose official recognition or validation is required in the Spanish educational system.
  • The studies taken by the interested party must not have been taken into  account for a favourable resolution in an official recognition or  validation process for another Spanish degree. The same foreign studies cannot lead to the official recognition of two Spanish degrees corresponding to different studies.
