I live abroad
If you are an international student who wants to validate your foreign studies, you must apply for official recognition through the Ministerio de Educación, Formación Profesional y Deportes.
You will then have to go to the Spanish Consulate in your country of residence. The bodies responsible for processing the file are the Education Departments of the Spanish Embassies abroad. They are responsible for all applications submitted within their scope, regardless of the nationality of the applicant or the educational system to which they belong.
A student with a high school diploma studied abroad must follow the steps detailed below to obtain the provisional referral note (document that must be submitted in the centre's pre-enrolment application, if they do not have the definitive recognition):
- Stage 1: Make the online application (not equivalent to the referral note) using the "Access to the online service" button on the e-Office page.
• I want to receive help completing the application.
• Instructions on how to register in the e-Office.
• Instructions on how to download the digital credential from the E-Office.
- Step 2: Make the payment. Pay the fee.
- Step 3: Submit the original academic documentation to an official registry office. This documentation is valid as provisional recognition (valid for one academic year). Once this step has been carried out, the recognition process begins and you can apply for admission to a centre.
You can go directly to:
- General Registry of the M (C/ de los Madrazo, 15, Madrid)
- Information and registration offices of government delegations/sub-delegations in the Autonomous Communities, or provincial directorates of this Ministry in Ceuta and Melilla.
- General registries of the diplomatic representations of Spain abroad.
- Step 4: You may receive requirements from Administration to complete your application details. Your process will be in process.
- Step 5: You will receive the recognition or validation credential, which allows you to be evaluated as another student.
Those students who have begun the process for validation or recognition of their studies and have not yet received a definitive resolution at the time of deadline for admission may be admitted to the teaching centres provisionally, in accordance with to article 15.2 of Royal Decree 104/1988, of 29 January.
*Your registration in the studies will be conditional on receiving the requested recognition or validation. If it is not favourable, the conditional registration and the results of the exams taken will be null and void.
Students residing outside Spain who have completed vocational training abroad must validate their non-university degree. To do so, you must access the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports website.
To access the vocational training cycles of the UAB Foundation Vocational Training Centre, a person who has completed foreign university studies must request the recognition of higher education degrees granted by foreign institutions to official Spanish university degrees.
Recognition of the equivalence or comparability of a foreign degree to a Spanish degree, which allows access to a regulated profession, entails the possibility of exercising the profession under the same conditions as holders of Spanish degrees. If you cannot request the recognition of the degree, you must request equivalence to the academic level.
What does the declaration of equivalence to the academic level of the degree consist of?
The declaration of equivalence grants the foreign degree, the same effects corresponding to the academic level as the degrees that are included in the specific area and field of training to which the equivalence has been declared (excluding professional effects with respect to those degrees that can be obtained by recognition) valid throughout national territory,.
