Steps to take to apply for homologation
If you were awarded your baccalaureate outside the EU, here are the steps to follow to get your studies recognised:
1. Application: processing your homologation file
Presentation of your electronic application (not equivalent to a volant or registration receipt).
2. Fees: payments of fees, if applicable.
- Payment of the 079 fee for the amount corresponding to the application.
- The payment issued by the bank together with the homologation application must be justified.
- Payment must be made by transfer to the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training to the account registered in the Bank of Spain, with the following address at Calle Alcalá 28, 28014-Madrid (Spain), and you must include the following details:
- Beneficiary: Treasury. Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. Account restricted to the collection of fees.
- Concept: Homologation + Name and surname of the applicant.
- IBAN: ES27 9000 0001 2002 5310 8018
- BIC: ESPBESMMXXX
3. Opening your file
Documents: presentation of the original academic documents at the registry (this is valid as a registration receipt/volant). In the case of a baccalaureate, the academic certification of the last three years and the baccalaureate certificate or diploma are required.
4. In process
Requirements: you may receive requests from the Administration to complete the application data.
5. Completion
Credentials: you will receive the credential of the homologation or validation (this allows you to be evaluated). Make sure you have a verified copy of the registration or the authentic electronic copy.
Once you have the definitive homologation of your baccalaureate, you will not be able to access the university if you only have a conditional enrolment form. Students who homologate their baccalaureate, cannot repeat these studies.
The next step is to pass the university entrance exams (PAU), organised by the Universidad de Educación a Distancia (UNED), which are the same as the PAU exams that Spanish students take. Therefore, it is necessary to process your university pre-registration beforehand.
Students can also gain access to Spanish universities without taking the PAU exams, using the grade provided on their homologated baccalaureate.
