Access requirements
In order to gain access with university studies awarded by foreign institutions to official Spanish university degrees of Bachelor's, Master's or equivalent qualifications, it is necessary to apply for homologation, which will provide access to a regulated profession in Spain (Annex to Royal Decree 889/2022, of 18 October).
The homologation of a foreign degree to a Spanish degree that allows access to a regulated profession will entail the possibility of practising the profession in question under the same conditions as the holders of the Spanish degrees that enable them to practise the profession.
Recognition is the process that recognises that the training you have received to pass a degree at a foreign university is equivalent to that required to obtain one of these university degrees in Spain.
You can apply for the recognition and validation of foreign higher education qualifications online or in person. Find out how to complete both procedures.
If you have obtained the official recognition of your degree from the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, you can apply for access to university through university pre-registration, through the graduate student pathway. Consult the University Pre-registration section to complete the procedure.
You can find more information on the management and accreditation of qualifications at this Ministry link.
Remember that if you have not accredited all the education required to obtain the Spanish qualification you wish to have recognised, recognition will be conditional upon the prior passing of certain complementary training requirements, which may consist of
- Passing an aptitude test.
- Completion of an internship.
- Completion of a project or work.
- Completion of supervised courses.
Application for academic equivalence
If you are unable to apply for homologation of your degree, you must apply for academic equivalence. The equivalence of a qualification grants the foreign qualification the same effects at the academic level as the qualifications that are included in the area and specific field of training to which the equivalence has been declared, with the exclusion of the professional effects with respect to those qualifications that can be obtained by homologation.
You can consult all the information and access the procedure through the link at the Ministry’s Electronic Headquarters.
