ClearFarm final event: "Animal welfare at the heart of the food chain in Europe"
Description:
After four years of research, the ClearFarm project is entering its final phase at a key moment for livestock production on the continent, in the midst of a mobilisation of different social and economic sectors in favour of a revision of the current European legislation on animal welfare.
Conviced of the need to put animal welfare and sustainability at the heart of policies regulating the production of animal-based food for human consumption, ClearFarm is organising an event which, in addition to presenting the results of the project, will bring together key players from different fields across Europe to reflect on the use of new technologies to improve animal welfare throughout the food chain.
The event will take place on 14 February at 11h in Brussels, but will also be streamed online on YouTube.
Hands-on demonstration
A practical demonstration, designed to familiarise the general public with the potential of the ClearFarm system, will describe the complete development process and the details of the platform's operation.
The presentation will be given by the leaders of the different work stages: Xavier Manteca, from the Department of Animal and Food Science at UAB and coordinator of the project; Elisabetta Canali, from the University of Milan; Eddie Bokkers and Paul Ingenbleek, from Wageningen University (WUR); Joan Serra, from the Department of Information and Communication Engineering at UAB; and Jarkko Niemi, from the Natural Resources Institute of Finland (LUKE).
