Medieval town of Àger
Certainly of older origin, the town of Àger as we know it today is a product of the Christian conquest of the 11th century and subsequent remodeling. Walled village, with four access portals, the main streets cross in the main square. Four neighborhoods are organized around this: Sant Pere, around the castle; Sant Martí, main access road from Balaguer until the 19th century; del Pedró, from where it was accessed from Montsec and Solsdevila. The latter is the neighborhood where the most important municipal structures are grouped: the parish church of Sant Vicenç, the old burial ground, the old paeria, the communal oven, the hospital, etc. Áger does not grow outside the walls until the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th.
Very specific archaeological excavations have been carried out in the walls of Solsdevila, the ice well, the cobbled streets of the Sant Pere neighborhood and the Sant Martí portal. The town is protected as a Cultural Property of National Interest as a Historic Site (nr. 1960-CH-EN, Government Agreement of the Generalitat of 25/05/1998, published in the DOGC of 22/6/1998).
