Cientific Heritage from UAB (iHC)

IMG_patrimoni_cientific_bcal_IHC

The Institut d'Història de la Ciència (iHC-UAB), among other tasks, has taken care of the scientific heritage of the UAB, including documentation and scientific archives, as well as scientific objects relevant to the history of science. Scientific and technological heritage is an institutional asset. Its preservation, study, and dissemination demonstrate a commitment to the knowledge generated by personal or institutional efforts, whether individual or group, local or international, resulting from large or small projects, and the associated technological development, which is in constant circulation through international research networks.

This scientific heritage of the UAB was showcased in a virtual exhibition on the occasion of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the UAB in 2019, a celebration that specifically commemorated 50 years of research at the UAB. The exhibition, titled "50 Years of Research at the UAB: The Audacity of Knowledge," aimed to bring the university community closer to a well-established tradition of scientific prestige, resulting from the work of our researchers and the evolution experienced in their laboratories and research centers over the past 50 years, a product of this circulation of technology and knowledge. The exhibition contained a small sample of the identified heritage material catalog at the UAB, which allowed the university community to appreciate its history and the journey and utilization of technological and scientific development, as well as to assess the current situation and foresee future development possibilities.

In addition to the temporary physical exhibition of 2019, there is an online section that includes detailed information and monographic videos about each piece in the exhibition. Additionally, you can watch the video “Reportage 50 Years of Research at the UAB - The Audacity of Knowledge,” which was shown during the exhibition.

The exhibition was curated by Carlos Acosta Rizo and Génesis Núñez Araya from the then Center of History of Science (CEHIC, now iHC), coordinated by Miquel Domènech Argemí, and managed by Cultura en Viu and the Area of Communication and Promotion - Audiovisuals and Multimedia Unit of the UAB.
