New website of the ERC Starting Grant CLIMASAT
The ERC Starting Grant project CLIMASAT, led by Dr. Gemma Cirac-Claveras, has a new website: https://projectclimasat.eu/
The ERC Starting Grant project CLIMASAT, Remote-sensing Satellite Data and the Making of Global Climate in Europe, 1980s-2000s, led by Dr. Gemma Cirac-Claveras, has a new website: https://projectclimasat.eu/. The project is funded by the European Union, and on the new website, you can find information about its activities, its latest results, as well as the team that comprises it. Dr. Gemma Cirac-Claveras is the Research Director of the Department of Philosophy at UAB (History of Science area). Trained as a physicist and holding a doctorate in the History of Science from l’Ecole des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris), she has worked at the Centre Alexandre Koyré (Paris), the Centre National d'Études Spatiales (Toulouse), the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (Paris), the National Air and Space Museum (Washington DC), the Laboratoire Techniques, Territoires et Sociétés (Marne), Pompeu Fabra University, and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
Her research explores the history of satellite remote sensing technology. More specifically, the history of the imbricated techniques, knowledge, practices, institutions, actors and ideas involved in the production, circulation and use of data generated with Earth-orbiting satellites, and the power relations they articulate, as well as their environmental, social and political implications.
Amongst others, she have been awarded prizes by NASA and History of Science Society (2015), American Institute of Physics (2016), European Space Agency (2017), and International Committee for the History of Technology (2016 and 2021) and since 2022 she has been the PI of the ERC Starting Grant CLIMASAT.
You can obtain more information about the research of Dr. Gemma Cirac-Claveras by clicking on her UAB research profile, and if you wish to contact her, you can do so through her email.
