The historical heritage and archeology of the city
The rich and varied local heritage extends beyond the headquarters of the Museums, encompassing the entire architectural and archaeological heritage of the municipality. It includes some elements of the medieval town, farmhouses and churches of rural Sant Cugat, modernist and noucentist houses of former vacationers, samples of rationalist architecture, sites, objects and documents, etc. A witness to the past of the city that offers a vision of its evolution and, at the same time, that allows the construction of multiple stories to make visible and value aspects of the past that tend to take a backseat to the main discourse: the history of women, construction of democratic memory, the ways of life of the popular, peasant and working classes, the link between culture and nature, etc.
The museum promotes research and dissemination of this heritage through activities: exhibitions, conferences, itineraries and visits, publications, on-site signage, digital content, innovation proposals, etc. It also actively participates in its management as a municipal Historical Heritage service through the Heritage Commission and teamwork with other municipal services. The role of the museum consists of assessing the heritage interest of the elements affected by projects in the city, identifying the most relevant and significant, ensuring the conservation of heritage values and compliance with protection regulations, and promoting measures to expand the protection.
Likewise, the Sant Cugat Museums are in charge of managing the archaeological interventions carried out in the municipality, the material remains of which enter their collections.
