Cervelló Castle archaeological site

Castell de Cervelló

The excavations at Cervelló Castle concentrate on the excavation of the last phases of the castle, 16th-18th centuries with a large volume of ceramic and metallic materials, which do not yet have a permanent exhibition site.

The site is one of the most innovative training sites for our students, allowing them to learn about structures and materials from modern and medieval times. In addition, it is interesting to recover an archaeological site in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, such as the Baix Llobregat, which until now did not support heritage.

In addition to the excavation of the castle, the consolidation and restoration of some of the spaces is being carried out in order to prepare them for public visits. For this reason, aid is being provided by the Provincial Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya under the Castle's Master Plan. At the moment, the chapel has been completely restored, and it is expected to raise walls and repair pavements in the Lluçà sector, and rebuild one of the cisterns.

It remains to find a space to display all the furniture of the site, although a temporary exhibition space is being prepared in the Library of Cervelló with a selection of finds from the excavations.
