In the age of artificial intelligence and data technology, security crises are commonplace. In recent years, security issues have become a major focus for European countries concerned about challenges such as migration, cyber-attacks and other difficulties, including crises caused by viruses.
In order to be well prepared such a crisis and to eliminate potential threats before they become crises, seven partners from six European countries - Spain (Prevention and Integral Safety and Security area of Escola FUAB Formació), Latvia (Turiba University), Lithuania (Kazimieras Simonavičius University), Finland (Laurea University of Applied Sciences), the Netherlands (Avans University of Applied Sciences) and Norway (Norte University) - have created the SECUREU web platform, which provides digital educational tools for security risk management aimed at students and teachers.
The initiative is part of the ERASMUS+ project and provides training materials based on the international risk management standard ISO 31000:
- Recommendations for Universities Training Security Professionals in Europe.
- Vocabulary.
- Video lessons on different sub-topics in this field.
- Compilation of good practices.
- Practical exercises for students and teachers.
The final conference to present the platform took place on 7 November, two years after its launch, at Turiba University in Riga, Latvia, one of the partners in the SECUREU project.

A network of security specialists for long-term cooperation
The aim of the project is to create a sustainable network professionals who can work together in the long term, and that the training materials will help to improve curricula and study methods related to security education and risk management, so that critical and collaborative thinking is achieved in the preparation of young experts. The digital educational tools are aimed at students and teachers, but are also available to colleges, universities and training centers offering security education and training, as well as to security professionals and anyone with a genuine interest in this topic.
The training material includes examples of best practice in corporate security, based on the international risk management standard ISO 31000, with articles, case studies and advice from experts in the field.
Challenges of a security specialist
In addition to the SECUREU digital tools, the ERASMUS+ partners also developed recommendations for universities preparing security specialists in Europe and carried out a series of activities - surveys of students and professors and round tables of experts from the six partner countries - which led to the identification of the key aspects that a security expert must have. First, they must be trained to think broadly and to see things in context. In this way, they will be able to understand organisational strategies and think strategically. Secondly, new specialists should be equipped with leadership and management skills, and finally, learning should focus on improving communication and soft skills.
