Agricultural areas
The farming areas
Since 1986 efforts have been made to recover disused farmland in the campus area. The UAB Farms and Experimental Fields Service is in charge of its farmland.
At present, 19 hectares of rainfed fields are used for crop-growing, spread over different parts of the UAB campus. Currently the main crops grown are ryegrass and sorghum The UAB's livestock, made up of 250 sheep and around 40 goats, grazes on the campus from September to June, thus helping to clear the undergrowth.
