From Monday to Friday.
From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Understand patient interactive behaviors according to gender, cultural background, and social context.
- Identify the social determinants of health.
- Understand how health and illness are socially constructed.
- Analyze the social inequalities that manifest themselves in the axes of social inequality and the needs that derive from them.
- Understand people without prejudice, considering their physical, psychological and social aspects and ensuring respect for their opinions, beliefs and values.
- Recognize the importance of transcultural care and clinical cultural competence.
Final Grade:
- Every week, students will present their narrative photographs and discuss them with the group (40% of final grade).
- In the final week, students will work in groups of 2-4 to prepare a presentation aimed at convincing their supervisor to incorporate the sociocultural perspective into daily clinical practice (40% of final grade).
- In the last week, each student will submit a reflective self-assessment report (10% of final grade).

Nina Granel Giménez, PhD. Registered nurse with 12 years’ experience in healthcare in Spain and the United Kingdom. Seven years teaching experience at the Nursing Department from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain). Research interest on Patient Safety Culture and Clinical Simulation.
