Find below a brief selection of some international events held at Casa Convalescència since the academic year 2004-2005.
ECIU University launch event
On November 8, the formal start of the ECIU University project took place, one of the seventeen international projects selected by the European Commission in the call for European universities of the Erasmus+ programme. It was attended by the authorities of the ECIU (European Consortium of Innovative Universities) consortium.
The UAB hosts a meeting of RedEmprendia
The technical committee of RedEmprendia, the Ibero-American network of university entrepreneurship and innovation, met on November 21 and 22 at Casa Convalescència. The meeting, jointly organized by the UAB, the UB and the UPC, - the three Catalan universities that are members of the network - was attended by representatives of 27 universities from eight countries, who analyzed current programs and defined new strategies of the future to promote university entrepreneurship.
The UAB and the Johan Cruyff Institute collaborate in teaching and research
In a press conference at the UAB Casa Convalescència, on November 19, the UAB and the Johan Cruyff Institute announced an agreement to jointly teach a master's degree in sports management, create a research chair and work on helping people disabled in the field of sport.
Nobel laureate Kostya Novoselov opens a workshop on nanobiosensors
The ICREA Workshop on Graphene Nanobiosensors is a unique event that brings together the main international actors working on the application of graphene and 2D materials in the field of Biosensors. The program featured world-class speakers, including the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, Kostya Novoselov.
Launch of the Ortelius program
On November 11, the Ortelius program launch event took place, attended by rectors and vice-rectors of 22 of the 36 member universities, and the presence of the president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Artur Mas, and the president of the Santander Universities Global Division, José Antonio Villasante. Ortelius wants to establish a bridge of relations between Asian and Latin American universities and the UAB, and 23 Chinese and South Korean universities and 13 American universities are already collaborating.
Conferences on the teaching of French
From September 3 to 5, the XXIV Pedagogical Days on the Teaching of French in Spain, organized by the Institute of Education Sciences, were held. More than three hundred secondary and university French teachers participated. Among the attending linguists, Igor Mel'cuk stands out, author of the sense-text theory, a theoretical description of how language works and, at the same time, an applied vision for language modeling in automatic language generation systems.
Linguists from all over the world at the UAB
Linguists Richard S. Kayne (pictured) of the City University of New York and John McCarthy of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst participated, along with leading linguistic specialists, in the 29th edition of the International GLOW Colloquium, organitzat pel Grup de Gramàtica Teòrica dels Departaments de Filologia Catalana i Filologia Espanyola. During the 5th, 6th and 7th of April, several monographic workshops on syntax and phonology were held with the participation of researchers from all over the world.
Writers and translators
French writer Daniel Pennac and his Spanish translator, Manuel Serrat Crespo, inaugurated the cycle of dialogues “Traduttore: traditore, assassino, amante, travestito? The author-translator relationship", with which the UAB began its participation in the Year of Books and Reading. Joan Carbonell, Vice Chancellor of Students and Cultural Promotion, presented the event and highlighted the figures of literary authors and their translators, without whom no work could cross the borders of their own language.
