Good practices

Here are some recommendations to consider throughout the different stages of a research document's lifecycle (such as articles, papers, conference presentations, books, chapters, etc.).

Cite correctly. Avoid plagiarism and other unethical practices (such as self-plagiarism, data creation or manipulation, fragmentation of a study into several papers, etc.). Please refer to the Scientific Ethics page.
Provide the standardised author signature and institutional affiliation.
Include the author’s ORCID code as an international personal identifier.
State the name or acronym of the funding organisation for the research, along with the project number, whether it is local, national, or international in scope.

Select the appropriate journal for publication.
Consider all the options for publishing in open access.
Retain all versions of your article. Always keep all versions of your article, particularly for journal submissions: the author's original (submitted, preprint), the revised version (accepted, postprint), and the final published version. Remember that the version to be deposited in a repository will depend on the publisher's copyright policies and its self-archiving rules.
Submit the article to the publisher, accompanied by a cover letter and use this as an opportunity to emphasise the relevance and quality of your work. Some publishers (Taylor & Francis, Springer, Cambridge-AJE) provide specific instructions and templates for cover letters. However, it is always best to follow the detailed specifications provided by each journal.
Respect scientific ethics. The UAB has established a Code of Good Research Practice and adheres to the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines for good publication practice. These guidelines cover key issues such as intellectual authorship, the prevention of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and redundant publications.

Identify the appropriate version of your article when necessary. For example, in the case of unpublished papers, it is recommended to include the citation and mention the Creative Commons licence at the beginning of the document (see the Creative Commons Licences recommended at the UAB).
Reference the new publication at the University Research Output and Transfer System where all the research output of your institution is collected (EGRETA at the UAB). Self-archive the document in any format in your institutional repository as soon as possible. If needed, you can request an embargo.
Add the new work to your list of publications across your various researcher profiles: ORCID, Google Scholar, Publons (Web of Science), AuthorID (Scopus).
Use social media to promote your work
Always link to the permanent URL of the document.
