• Inconsistent titles: Most journals include words like "American", "British", "European" or "Swedish" in their titles, but they are actually based in other countries. Often, the title is too long and contains words like "Global", "World", "International", "American", "British", or "Canadian".
• Lack of transparency regarding fees: It is not easy to determine how much and how to pay. The publishing fees are not clearly stated and can range from $50 to $1,500.
• Suspicious editorial boards: They do not provide information about the members of the editorial board or show duplicate names from the editorial board of another journal.
• No trace in databases: The publisher claims on their website that the journals are indexed in many prestigious databases, but this is not the case.
• The journal’s website could be a replica of a well-known journal: It has an unprofessional appearance, with spelling and grammar errors.
• The percentage of publications is not specified or is difficult to locate.
• Indexing and impact factor: The journal does not follow the standards of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
• The journal is not open access: It requests the transfer of copyright.
