 BCN HONEY FEST

On 29 September, Barcelona hosted the second edition of the BCN Honey Fest, a festival dedicated to the fascinating world of bees, organized by the Apicultura Urbana involving ICTA-UAB researchers.

Throughout the day, attendees found a variety of workshops, demonstrations and activities that helped people learn about bees and honey.

Several Bee Talks were offered, 15-minute presentations in the style of TED Talks, as well as scientific and cultural talks about themes related to the world of bees. The Laboratory of Palynological Analyses from ICTA-UAB participated in the event showing the diversity of beekeeping products (honey, pollen, royal jelly, propolis and wax) and their relationship with the environment. They showed how to differentiate pollen grains, and what bees do with them.

Furthermore, one of the key organisers of the event is Pau Cardellach, PhD researcher at ICTA-UAB.

One of the main attractions of the festival was the market, where local farmers and beekeepers sold their products and shared their ideas about the protection of the bee population, which has seen a significant decline in recent years.

Several stalls offered visitors honey and pollen, propolis tincture, beeswax candles, cosmetics made from honey and wax, as well as herbs, fruits and vegetables.
