Esteve Corbera

A new article recently published in PLOS One presents the global research trends and scholarly networks on ecosystem services research covering the period 1981–2017. The analysis included bibliometric information regarding publication outputs, journals, author keywords, countries, institutions, and authors. It was based on 132 most highly cited research articles retrieved from the SCI-E and SSCI databases of the Web of Science. The types of ecosystem and ecosystem services assessed, the research focus of the studies evaluated, and the geographical location of case study sites were also considered.

ICTA-UAB researcher Esteve Corbera, as well as former ICTA-UAB post-doc Erik Gomez-Baggethun, appear among the most productive and cited scholars in ecosystem services research worldwide, with their interests spanning across ecological economics, landscape ecology, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services. Partly as a result of Esteve and Erik’s collaborative research, the UAB is the fifth institution in the world in terms of total number of highly cited ecosystem services articles published from 1981 to 2017, preceded by Stockholm University, the University of East Anglia, Stanford University, and the University of Minnesota.
