Pinguins and caring at school
The socio-educational programme CROMA 2.0 has launched its “Pinguins in practice” project in different school centres. This initiative created by the School for a Culture of Peace consists in presenting children with challenges to help them advance in care, respect, self-esteem and in improving their social relationships.

This year, the children of the CROMA 2.0 socio-educational programme of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària have participated in a new project called “Penguins in practice”, designed by the School for a Culture of Peace with the support of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation.
The “Penguins” project promotes inclusion and respect through conflict resolution activities for primary school pupils. Through cooperative dynamics, the children learn to manage difficult situations, promoting empathy, self-esteem and peace. The main objective is to reinforce collective responsibility in caring for oneself and others. They also worked to identify micro-violence, include isolated people, distinguish between jokes and insults, and establish limits to inappropriate comments.
The closing of the project served to make an overall assessment of the experience, with very positive conclusions. As shared by Èrica, one of the participants and a pupil at the Ramón i Cajal school in Terrassa, the activities have allowed her to “value myself and others more”. Also according to one of the facilitators, Alba Granados, who studies Sociology at the UAB, the “project has fostered the cohesion we were looking for from the beginning”. In conclusion, the children developed new skills to listen to, value and understand each other, generating a clear impact on the way they relate to each other.
