Exhibition and debate on Taiwanese literature
Description:
On Thursday 16 May the exhibition on Taiwanese literature "Navegar cap al món: la literatura taiwanesa" will be inaugurated. The exhibition was co-organised by the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan, the Journals Hall of the Humanities Library, and the UAB research group TXICC and will be on display at the Journals Hall of the Humanities Library.
The inauguration will serve to also offer a round table at 12 noon with the participation of Taiwan literature translators Alberto Poza (UOC), Antonio Paoliello (UAB) and Mireia Vargas-Urpí (UAB). The round table will be moderated by Sílvia Fustegueres (member of the TXICC group and disseminator of Sinophone literature on social media).
The exhibition consists of 14 roll-ups contextualising modern Taiwanese literature and focus on the issues found in the books being currently translated.
The exhibition will be on display until 14 June.

Conversation between Chieh-yao Chen and Esteve Riambau
Description:
In celebration of Mother Language Day, a conversation will be held beetween Chieh-yao Chen, independent academic and Taiwan cinema scholar, and Esteve Riambau, historian, producer and director of the Filmoteca de Catalunya and lecturer in the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising at the UAB.
This conversation forms part of the Taiwan film cycle "Històries des de dins", which will be offered at the Cinemes Girona in Barcelona from 16 to 18 May.

Screening of the documentary "Nturudu"
Description:
A vibrant documentary, full of rhythm, colour and traditions that shows how Guinea-Bissau has made Nturudu (carnival) an instrument to save its national identity.
Organised by the Portuguese Language Centre / Camoes, IP in Barcelona of the UAB.

Blood drive at the UAB
Description:
The UAB joins the new blood donation campaign of the Blood and Tissue Bank. Several areas of the campus will become a donation point. This campaign aims to make itself known among the younger generations of Catalonia, raise awareness and inform people about donating blood.
On 16 May, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and again from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., a blood drive will take place at the entrance hall of the Faculty of science and Biosciences. To participate, it is necessary to sign up in advance by choosing the most suitable time. This year, the Blood and Tissue Bank aims to build the first digital castle. Each donation is one more step to building this castle that represents a symbol of the collective effort of donating blood and the cohesion and connection that this gesture means between donors and recipients.
The Blood and Tissue Bank is also holding a bone marrow donation campaign.

Historical thinking of the national and regional crises of Spain
Description:
On 15 and 16 May, the conference Pensar històricament les crisis nacionals i territorials a Espanya [Historical Thinking of National and Regional Crises in Spain] will take place, organised by the Centre for Studies on Dictatorships and Democracies at the UAB (CEDID) and the European School of Humanities. The activity forms part of the research project "Estat i dinàmiques nacionals a Espanya (1931-1978)", of which Xavier Domènech and Francesc Vilanova, lecturers in modern history at the UAB, are the main researchers.
The meeting aims to debate different tensioning elements and proposals related to the connections between several national projects and the state of Spain, from a historical and also international point of view.
On Thursday 16 May, the second conference day will begin with the third session led by Vega Rodríguez-Flores and Aurelio Martí Bataller, both lecturers in the Department of Modern and Early Modern History of the University of Valencia. They will speak on democratic experience and plurinationality in a conference entitled “Experiències democràtiques i integració de la plurinacionalitat”. The fourth and last session will include the participation of Andrew Dowling, lecturer in Catalan and Spanish History at the University of Cardiff, Wales, and Pau Casanellas, lecturer in the Department of Modern and Early Modern History at the UAB, entitled “Experiències dictatorials en l’intent d’erradicar la plurinacionalitat” [Dictatorial Experiences in the Intent to Eradicate Plurinationality].

13th Ceremony for the awarding of PhD degrees and extraordinary PhD prizes
Description:
The 13th Ceremony for the awarding of PhD degrees and Extraordinary PhD prizes will be held on 17 May. The event will take place at the Hotel Campus of the Vila Universitària, at the UAB. The ceremony will begin with a speech by UAB Rector Javier Lafuente. Joan Subirats, emeritus professor of the Department of Political Science and Public Law, will sponsor the ceremony and offer a lecture entitled “Scientific Knowledge and Social Change”. The event will also include a performance by the UAB Choir and will end with food and refreshments for all attendants.
