Victoria Reyes-García, ICREA Research Professor at ICTA-UAB participated in the UNESCO Forum – Living together on Earth, on Thursday May 27. The event was organised on the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2021: We are part of the solution. It could be followed live on UNESCO’s page, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm (CEST / GMT+2).

International Biodiversity Day

This forum was based on the idea that there is only one Earth, not one planet for nature and another for humans. However, we are inclined to think of our planet simply as a scenery, which runs contrary to local and indigenous understanding. The values that enable us to live together in harmony with nature are expressed on several levels. Values that deal with knowledge: how do we create knowledge, and how do we use it? Values that deal with action: what is our responsibility in the face of the foreseeable or imaginable consequences of our collective actions? And finally, values that shape how we care, see and listen.

The activity was organized around storytelling leading to action to reconcile humans and the other living beings on Earth. It included a graphical facilitation, and speakers were invited to share their relationships with the living world though 3 sessions.

The first highlighted the role of emotions with images and sounds; the second revisited the links between humans and nature; and the last was a call for action following the launch of the movement for living together on Earth by UNESCO on 24 March 2021 during its Biodiversity forum

Victoria Reyes-García took part in the 2nd session “Creating through the #mind”, and she spoke about building on diversity of relationships and values between humans and/in/with nature.
