Key concepts of ecological economics in new book
Elgar Encyclopedia of Ecological Economics is the title of a new book edited by ICTA-UAB researcher Jesús Ramos-Martín that summarises the developments in ecological economics, from the fundamental contributions to the more recent methodological debates in the field, and reflects the relevant state of research, including past and present major debates on particular concepts, theories, actors and issues.
Published by Edward Elgar Publishing, this comprehensive encyclopedia brings together contributions from over 100 authors from around the world.
Co-edited with Emilio Padilla Rosa, Professor at the Department of Applied Economics of the UAB, the volume addresses the links between the ecological crisis and economic activity through a multidisciplinary approach in the fields of economics, ecology, sociology, geography, political science and history.
To this end, the book offers an extensive list of topics, including sustainable development, limits to growth, agroecology, implications of thermodynamic laws for economics, integrated ecological-economic modelling, valuation of natural resources and services, and management of renewable and non-renewable resources. With a strong normative focus, the entries include theoretical, methodological and empirical contributions as the field directs its efforts towards improving environmental policy and governance to enhance well-being, environmental quality and social equity.
This unique reference will be an important tool for students, scholars, policy makers and anyone else seeking to understand the link between economic systems and the environment from the perspectives of ecological economics, business management, environmental studies and urban studies.
