Since 1997, the ICTA-UAB has been participating in this lab meeting, coming from analysis services in universities, public centres, and private businesses. The goal of the meeting is to measure externally the quality of both organic elemental analysis and isotopic analysis.

EXERCICI LAIE

On this 27th edition, the ICTA-UAB has had the opportunity to host the exercise, taking place at the Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambiental of the UAB. Not only that, but it has involved the participation of two laboratories of the universities: the Laboratori d’Anàlisis d’Isòtops Estables (LAIE) at ICTA-UAB and the Servei d’Anàlisi Química (SAQ) from the Serveis Cientificotècnics.

Before the meeting, the participant laboratories analyse the same samples, from which percentual results are obtained, both from Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Sulphur (CHNS) and isotopic analysis. In the sessions held on June 17 and 18, the consensus values were presented, and the acceptance intervals for each result were established. So, the exercise becomes a space where to share doubts and experiences, as well as look for solutions to both big and small challenges.

Aside from the UAB, the last Exercise has had Matcontrol, from SAQ, and LAIE as organizers. It has also been sponsored by LECO, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Carburos Metálicos.
