ICTA-UAB film The Green Divide, selected for the SUNCINE Festival
The film The Green Divide, produced by the Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability at ICTA-UAB, is one of the feature-length documentaries that will be presented at the 31st edition of SUNCINE (International Environmental Film Festival), which will be held in Barcelona and Calafell from 1 to 9 November 2024.
The Green Divide, made as part of the GREENLULUS project directed by researcher Isabelle Anguelovski, is an interactive documentary that explores cases of "green inequalities" through the stories of activism related to the processes of greening and the construction of mostly elite housing in six cities in Europe, the United States and Canada.
Created by Alberto Bougleux, the film aims to share the challenges and successes of activist and community movements in the face of the emerging pressures of green gentrification. The stories document the challenges of building greener but not always equitable cities in Portland, Washington D.C., Boston, Montreal, Nantes and Barcelona. In each city, there are three stories of residents mobilising for equity and inclusion around projects that aim to renaturalise cities and improve access to green infrastructure.
In addition to the feature film, The Green Divide is an interactive online documentary that includes short videos of activists and planners, archival and recent photographs, and neighbourhood analyses. All information is freely navigable through the web platform.
The documentary has been selected to participate in the VIEWS SECTION of the WWF Award. SUNCINE is a multi-platform festival (on-site, online and television) and the VIEWS SECTION will be shown exclusively on the online platform, free of charge for all audiences. The section aims to offer a global view of the planet through a variety of documentaries.
