Professor Björn Vollan, head of the research group Sustainable Use of Natural Resources at the University of Marburg (Germany), will be giving a keynote on "Behavioural experiments in sustainability research: Applications  from uncovering causality to deepening system understanding and collective learning”.

In this talk, Prof. Björn Vollan will discuss the use of experimental games as a tool to understand social and ecological context conditions favourable to self-governance, and how experimental games can stimulate communities to work together to self-govern their shared resources. Those games vary from abstract laboratory experiments with student subjects to co-creation of games with stakeholders. In the talk, he will highlight examples from pastures in Namibia, groundwater resources in India and coastal fisheries in the Philippines.
 

Biography
Björn Vollan is a professor and head of the research group "Sustainable Use of Natural Resources" at the University of Marburg. Much of his work combines insights from Ecological and Behavioural Economics focussing on management of collective resources and adaptation to climate change.
