Event details

We are glad to invite you to the ICTA-UAB Summer Day 2024, a great opportunity to give visibility to the initiatives launched in the framework of the María de Maeztu programme.

It will be a great occasion to introduce PhD and post-doctoral researchers working on the five Societal Challenges, and to foster social gathering. The event is open to all members of the ICTA-UAB community, and it will be followed by a collective summer lunch and social activities.

9:45-10.45 - RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

Four colleagues will present the main highlights of a project they led in 2023. There will be 5’ for questions after each presentation.

After a brief presentation, we will explore the third and fourth floor labs, guided by colleagues of the IMPACTANT, EARLYFOODS, MERS and SOSTENIPRA groups.

 
12:00-13:00 - RESEARCH DEBATE

Which role for Artificial Technology in (socio-)environmental research?

How is Artificial Intelligence (AI) influencing environmental and socio-environmental research? Members of the academic and research community of UAB will discuss the advantages and perils of using AI in academia and scientific practice. The debate will be moderated by Esteve Corbera.

13:00-14:00 – CLOSING KEYNOTE

‘Towards an Earth System Economics’, Prof. Eric Galbraith, McGill University

Eric Galbraith completed a PhD in Oceanography at the University of British Columbia in 2006, followed by a postdoc in climate modelling at Princeton University. He has been a professor at McGill University since 2009 and was an ICREA research professor at ICTA-UAB from 2015-2019. His research focuses on understanding the global human system as a component of the Earth system. He has been on sabbatical at ICTA-UAB during the 2023-2024 academic year.
