On 18 February the UAB Institute for Education will be holding an event to present the Argó programme and Brúixola project to the members of the university community. These two unique UAB initiatives aim to help students transition from one educational stage to another. The event will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the conference hall of the Rectorat building.

La UAB promou la transició a la universitat amb el programes Argó i Brúixola

These programmes, which respond to strategic objectives of the action plan of the UAB Governing Team, deepen the transfer of research from the academic orientation for students in secondary education and high school, as well as the collaboration of schools in the region with the university, as explained by those responsible who will speak at the event: José Luís Muñoz, UAB Vice-Rector for Training and Teaching Innovation; Edelmira Badillo and Anna Ortiz, director and deputy director of the Institute for Education (ICE); Begonya Oliveras, coordinator of the Argó programme; and Roser Pericon and Gabriel Chancel, coordinators of the Brúixola Project.

The Argó programme has been offered since the 2003/04 academic year and aims to facilitate the transition between upper secondary education and university through multiple activities that favour the academic orientation of secondary school students: workshops, counselling, research for learning, internships and summer courses. It directly involves students in the last years of ESO and baccalaureate, secondary education teachers and teachers of university departments, thus deepening the rapprochement and collaboration between teachers from different educational levels. Argó aims to facilitate the transition of upper secondary school students to university, as well as to contribute to the updating of knowledge of secondary school teachers. Among other activities, the UAB currently announces the 22nd Argó Award for upper secondary school research projects and projects of higher education cycles.

The Brúixola project is an initiative of the ICE and the UAB's Equality and Diversity Service, which consists of putting undergraduate students from the University in contact with upper secondrary school students to advise them in the transition stage from secondary education to higher education. The project takes place throughout the academic course; students from the UAB and high schools maintain regular contact both online and in person. The objective is to create a relationship of trust, proximity and co-responsibility to help students make decisions about their future university studies. Student tutors offer support and information based on their own experience about the options and characteristics of university studies. Priority is given to second-year students. Participation in the Brúixola project can be validated for two ECTS credits.
