Exposició sobre els mitjans de comunicació a la Mediterrània
As part of the World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies 2010, an exhibit will be on display on the main communication media of the Mediterranean at the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives. The exhibit includes samples on the diversity of people and cultures of these regions and the information shared between countries. The exhibit will be on display until 28 July and has been organised by CEDOC (Documentary Centre of Communication).

The exhibit includes information from mass media in 32 Mediterranean coastal regions and aims to demonstrate the complex media structure of this region.

Mediterranean countries, so near and often sharing common roots, make up a magnificent mosaic of countries, peoples and cultures living side by side. Mass media therefore reflects the diversity of these countries (in contents, presentation, advertising, etc.) and at the same time are useful tools in both raising awareness of each region's reality and describing similarities and differences of neighbouring realities.

News agencies are the main source of storing and transmitting the region's social reality to the media. The exhibit covers the distribution of offices of the leading new agencies of the world. At the same time, each country has its own news agency which offers both local news and news from around the world, although often only after filtering it.

A selection of 60 newspapers presents the diversity of languages, contents and formats used in the Mediterranean press. Visitors can also view 37 newspapers printed on 12 February 2010 in Catalonia showing the use of both Catalan and Spanish in general and specialised press.

Computers will be available and visitors will have access to websites and streaming services offered by radio and television stations from around the Mediterranean, as a sample of the diversity in languages of the region.

Online newspapers in Catalan, French and Spanish which do not appear in print format can also be consulted, as well as extensive information on the press in general.
