Social anxiety, nutrition and mental health, depression and neurobiology in Alzheimer's disease are the topics that will be the focus of the next edition of the Cervella't conference series, which will be held from 10 to 13 March on the occasion of World Brain Week.

Cervella't 2025

Once again this year, the CORE in Mental Health of the UAB and the Institut de Neurociències (INc-UAB) join the celebration of World Brain Week with a series of talks to raise awareness of the impact that neuroscience research has on our daily lives.

The talks will be held from 10-13 March online and will be given by UAB research staff and members of the CORE in Mental Health. Attendance is open to everyone, but prior registration is required.

On Monday, 10 March at 7:00 p.m., INc-UAB researchers Carles Vendrell and Xavier Fernandez will give the talk “Neurobiology in Alzheimer's disease”, in which they will explain, with the use of animal models and advanced molecular biology technologies, how they analyse the activity of genes to understand the causes of memory loss and neurodegeneration that occurs in this disease.

At 7:45 p.m., in the session “Does depression change the way we interpret facial expressions?", Eva Cortés, researcher at the Cognitive and Affective Science Laboratory group of the INc-UAB, will explain that the way we perceive emotions in the faces of others can change in people with depression, suicidal tendencies and other emotional disorders.

On Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Marta Godoy from the Institute for Research and Innovation Parc Taulí (I3PT) will give the talk “Beyond the ICU: characterisation and management of post-intensive care syndrome”, in which she will talk about how a critical health condition and its management can have a cognitive and emotional impact on ICU patients, both in the short and long term.

On Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. there will be a session entitled “How eating ultra-processed foods affect mental and brain health”, by Montserrat Solanas, Adam Álvarez, Verónica Palomera and Oren Contreras, all four from the INc-UAB, who will highlight the effects of consuming ultraprocessed foods and drinks on mental health, especially depression and anxiety.

The last talk will be on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., “Social Anxiety. Presentation of the ANSIO-DIVERS Project”. Melissa Samaniego, predoctoral researcher at the UAB and the Institute of Biomedical Research of Girona Doctor Josep Trueta (IDIBGI), will present the ANSIO-DIVERS project, a study to treat social anxiety in people with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability through cognitive-behavioral therapy modified with an immersive virtual reality space.
