On 25 September, the UAB Governing Council approved its 5th Gender Equality Action Plan for the 2024-2030 period. For the first time, the plan also includes the 1st Gender Equality in Labour Issues Plan.

The UAB's 1st Gender Equality in Labour Issues Action Plan is the result of negotiations between the representatives of the institution and the University's staff.

The UAB's 5th Gender Equality Action Plan (2024-2030) is the instrument that makes it possible to articulate the University's gender equality and LGTBI+ policies, reaffirming once again its political commitment to the effective application of the principle of equal opportunities and non-discrimination.

The plan is based on the ample experience acquired by the UAB in the design and implementation of the four previous equality plans, and therefore the fifth plan was also created using the same methodology and instruments. In addition, staff representatives have been involved in the whole process.

The most important aspects in labour matters revolve around ensuring the reconciliation of work or student and family life in order to ensure non-discrimination for reasons of sex, pregnancy or maternity, as well as the duty of public authorities to guarantee equal opportunities between women and men. Another important element is equal pay, which establishes the preparation of reports on wage distribution, as well as the analysis and correction in cases of discrimination.

Plan structured into eight key points

The document is organised into eight points plus a section on sources and references. After an introduction, it details the process of preparing the Plan, which began with the diagnosis and ended with the approval of the document by the Governing Council on 25 September 2024.

Section three presents a summary of the current regulatory framework in this area. Section four describes the situation of women at the UAB and section five presents the community's assessment of the actions being carried out at the University in terms of gender equality and LGTBI+. The sixth section presents the main evaluation results of the degree of implementation of the 4th Gender Equality Action Plan at the UAB.

The seventh section contains the set of objectives for achieving gender equality and the measures to be implemented (for each measure, the executing body, the instruments, the resources required and the indicator for evaluating its implementation are specified). The actions are structured in axes, one of which encompasses and distinguishes the labour aspects defined by Royal Decree 901/2020: Selection and promotion; Professional classification and remuneration; Working conditions; Training; Exercise of co-responsibility in care; and Underrepresentation of women. At the same time, measures have been negotiated affecting other areas of action such as the promotion of culture and equality policies or one referring to male and LGTBI-phobic violence.

Finally, the eighth point defines the methodology and instruments that will be used to promote the implementation of the measures and to monitor the degree of execution of the plan.

The measures foreseen in this 5th Plan are based on the results obtained from the diagnosis presented by the Equality and Diversity Service, but also, and with respect to the actions related to the work environment, on the negotiation process with the representation of the University staff.
