Assessing Genetic Risks

The Genomics & Genetic Risk Track gives you the opportunity to learn about DNA damage, mutations, genetic evolution, population genomics, and human genome study techniques such as sequencing technologies and bioinformatics, as well as delve into the concepts of genetic risk and biomonitoring. The track is accompanied by an internship stay in a genetics research laboratory.

  • Student profile 

Students interested in enrolling this track are recommended to have completed their bachelor programme or have completed 180 ECTS in the field of biosciences (for example: Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Biomedicine, Genetics, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine or similar). The final decision will be made by the academic coordinator of the track.

Apart from the compulsory subjects of the Track, you can choose, optionally, to take an elective course from the list below. You can choose to do one or none.

The total amount of credits of the track is 24 ECTS. In case students want to take an elective course, which is not mandatory, you will earn a total of 30 ECTS. 

Please bear in mind that there is not pre-established schedule for the lab internship for the LAB INTERNSHIP thus, the timetable must be agreed with your lab supervisor. Once you have chosen all elective subjects from your TRACK, you can meet your lab supervisor and show they your calendar. Together you will decide which days and hours you will have to attend the laboratory. As an approximation, since it is a 12 ECTS internship, you should do about 300 hours in the lab. That's about 40 days full-time or 80 days for half-time. 

Requirements 

This track is offered fully in English, so international students must have a good level of English to enrol.  

We recommend students interested in enrolling in this track to have completed their bachelor programme or to be studying the last year of a degree in the field of biosciences (for example: Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Biomedicine, Genetics, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine or similar).    

This track is accompanied by an internship in a genetics research laboratory, thus, the adequacy of the candidate will be assessed, according to their academic CV. 

The final decision will be made by the academic coordinator of the programme.

  • For European Students an ID copy
  • For non-European Students a passport copy
  • B2 in English (CEFR) Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for non-native English speaker.

  • Health Insurance (must be presented in the arrival at the UAB)
