Master-class. Digital transformation: with bare hands or with a records management system?
On 2 December 2020, Lluís Esteve Casellas: archivist, head of archiving and records management, and data protection officer with Girona City Council, gave an online talk on modernisation, digitisation and e-administration in the framework of the graduate diploma in Electronic Records Management. He reflected on the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities of records management in the hectic world of digital transformation.
Forgetting not allowed: privacy, identity and rights in the digital age
On 12 November 2020, the ESAGED held the official inauguration of academic year 2020-2021, in online format. The expert in public policy, technologies and data Gemma Galdón gave the inaugural lecture, entitled Forgetting not allowed: privacy, identity and rights in the digital age. She spoke about the role of archivists in dealing with issues like memory in the age of digitisation, and the need to define the right to algorithm transparency, the right to redress, and the right to algorithm justice.
Webinar. Keys to leading a records and archive management service
On 28 October 2020 the School organised the webinar Keys to leading a records and archive management service, within the graduate diploma in Executive Management of Document and Archive Services. The webinar was led by Ramon Alberch, the first director of the ESAGED, who talked about the factors that managers have to take into account in areas like infrastructure, human resources, budgeting and revenue management, strategic planning, and policies on dissemination, marketing and communication.
Master-class. Human rights and archives: challenges and new opportunities for the profession
On 30 June and 3 September 2020, the ESAGED organised the online master class Human rights and archives: challenges and new opportunities for the profession, led by Ramon Alberch, the first director of the ESAGED and a lecturer on the specialist course Archives and Human Rights, Gender and Diversity. The class dealt with the multi-faceted nature of archives and how they can help in defending human rights, through policies on justice, truth, redress and guarantees of non-repetition.
Master-class. The new paradigm in archival studies
On 2 July 2020, the director of the School, Joan Pérez, gave a master-class on new possibilities in the archiving profession and the multidisciplinary nature of records management. The session examined records management from multiple perspectives. Dr Pérez spoke about transparency and access to information, data protection, open government, re-use and big data, quality management, e-administration, the social archive, groups that are rendered invisible, and promoting human rights, memory and redress.
Data-led records management. Professional challenges in the context of digital transformation
On 16 July 2020, the School organised a webinar on data-led records management and digital transformation, given by Jordi Serra, a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Librarianship and Records Management of the University of Barcelona, and within the graduate diploma in Electronic Records Management. Dr Serra has over 20 years' experience in records management, processes and e-administration, and he is a consultant on electronic records management and digital conservation projects in both the public and the private sector.
Seminar on records management and archival studies in China
On 25 April 2019, the School hosted the seminar: Disruptive versus supportive: the impact of PIS technologies on a person's records. The lecturers Sherry L. Xie, Catherine Li and Guanyan Fan, from Renmin University of China, discussed topics like Pervasive Information System Technology (PIS), the situation of the Chinese government's e-administration, and regulations on data protection. The seminar was organised by FABER and the Association of Archivists and Records Managers of Catalonia.
Inaugural lecture: How to be informed without dying in the process? Get an archivist in your life
On 24 October 2019, the ESAGED held its inauguration event for academic year 2019-2020. The inaugural lecture, entitled How to be informed without dying in the process? Get an archivist in your life, was given by the ICT and data journalist Karma Peiró. She highlighted three reasons for calling for an archivist: they can guide you to the truth and do away with fraud; they can turn ephimeral information into lasting knowledge; they can capture knowledge in the Digital Age and preserve it for coming generations.
Records, lies and social media. Epistemological considerations on the new uses of information
On 25 October 2018, the ESAGED opened the new 2018-2019 academic year with the lecture Records, lies and social media. Epistemological considerations on the new uses of information, given by Salvador Cardús. The sociologist spoke with optimism about the impact of social media on social transformation, which demands even greater sensibility and professionalism on the part of archivists.
