Ideal student profile
This Master's degree has been designed to respond to the needs of a very diverse student body, coming from different studies. The field of work in Digital Humanities and Heritage is currently characterised by its transdisciplinary nature. Institutions and companies dedicated to cultural management do not hire specialists with a specific university degree, but professionals who are capable of integrating very diverse knowledge, skills and competences. In that sense, the Master's degree can be accessed by graduates in all disciplines of arts, humanities and social sciences, who are interested in training in the use of modern digital and information technology.
Knowledge
- Identify challenges and opportunities in relation to research and dissemination of the humanities and of cultural and heritage assets.
- List digital strategies that allow specific problems posed by the research and dissemination of humanistic and cultural issues to be solved.
- Recognise the innovative potential of technology and the digital medium in socio-cultural and humanistic research areas.
- Identify the theoretical foundations and operating principles of the digitisation or digital transformation of documents and cultural objects.
- Identify the theoretical foundations and operating principles of digital information management systems.
- Identify the theoretical foundations and principles of operation of interactive human-computer systems that can be used for the dissemination and understanding of cultural heritage.
Skills
- Apply advanced digitisation technologies in written documents related to the humanities and culture
- Edit digitised text using computer tools and languages.
- Apply advanced photogrammetry and laser scanning techniques in the digitisation of historical and/or architectural objects.
- Edit geometric models resulting from the 3D digitisation of historical and architectural objects.
- Design databases using cultural-specific ontologies, approved by UNESCO and other international organizations.
- Use computer tools for document management, indexing, cataloguing, and consultation.
- Interpret qualitative and quantitative data using statistical techniques, machine learning, and data mining.
- Design interactive systems for the dissemination, teaching and communication of cultural and humanistic information.
- Apply formal strategies for validating digital projects through analysis of use response in memory institutions (archives, libraries and museums).
- Analyse gender problems in digital humanities through strategies that address these issues.

- Provide technological solutions to problems arising from public use and open access to cultural goods and documents of a humanistic nature.
- Generate digital projects of cultural interest with a multidisciplinary perspective, demonstrating the ability to work autonomously and in a team.
- Design evaluation mechanisms, related to digital humanities, with ethical responsibility and respect for fundamental rights, diversity and democratic values.
- Communicate digital culture issues to general audiences in a professional, educational and/or informative context, using new information and communication technologies.
- Design digital projects in cultural and humanistic matters that take into account gender perspectives.
- Design digital projects that take into account the sustainability and environmental impact of the computer technology used.
