Basic skills

• Thorough training in biological, social and community bases of medicine. This training is obtained through a profound knowledge of new biological disciplines which will bring about diagnostic and therapeutic advances in the future. Special consideration will be given to the social bases of a disease and population-based health.
• Development of competent clinical reasoning skills. The academic years devoted to the clinical cycle must not represent an excess in the accumulation of knowledge without a correct understanding of how to apply this knowledge to clinical practices. Once you have completed this degree, as a doctor you will be capable of directing diagnostics and therapeutically solving situations which, due to their prevalence and importance, are frequently faced by GPs.
• Social and ethical commitment to the medical profession. This is an unrenounceable objective all new graduates must have and which can be achieved with training in subjects which until now have been explicitly absent from this degree's syllabus and in further developing the subjects which already exist.
• Humanistic consideration for the profession. Doctors cannot become good professionals if they do not view what they do as an activity that includes far more aspects than the biological consideration of diseases. In order to have a better understanding of their patients, doctors must be fully aware of what becoming sick can represent and of the different cultural interpretations of illness and disease. In addition, an open attitude is needed to understand situations arousing from the loss of health and the influence this can have on people.
