In response to the growing demands of teaching and research activities, a plan to upgrade technological infrastructures and internet access across the campus was launched this summer.
With the integration of Wi-Fi management at UAB, a unified and accessible service has been ensured across all campus buildings. The new network continues to offer two connection options:
- The Eduroam system, accessible with the niu@uab.cat account and password, available from any computer or via the Geteduroam app for Android and iOS mobile devices.
- Or the second network called "UAB," which currently does not require identification, but may soon include a login portal similar to the old Vila network.
The old VILA Wi-Fi connection has been restricted to the apartments of Vila Universitària residents and the ground floor premises of these buildings, and is therefore no longer visible from the Edifici Blanc. However, the offices of Economics (local K), Promotion and Communication (local F1), Health and Ageing Foundation (local F2), and Congresses and Events (Vila 2 – office 738) will continue to have access to the Vila Wi-Fi network with Eduroam and VILA connection services.
The placement of new antennas has been carefully studied and installed to ensure full coverage in the building's classrooms and offices, significantly increasing the number of antennas to ensure a smooth connection. Additionally, two outdoor antennas have been installed to provide coverage to the external plaza of the Edifici Blanc.
This project is also part of the implementation of the Wi-Fi 6 Protocol across the university, a major improvement that significantly increases range, data transfer capacity, and internet connection speed.
With this new infrastructure, students, professors, and staff are expected to enjoy high-quality service to meet the daily connection needs at UAB.
