Open Access Week

Open Access Week 2024

From October 21 to 27, the International Open Access Week is celebrated around the world, an annual initiative to promote open access (OA) in the academic and research world. This year the motto is Community over commercialization is an opportunity to prioritize approaches to open scholarship that serve the best interests of the public and the academic community.

Below we detail the different activities that will be held to promote open access and we invite you to attend!

Step by step: practical workshop for depositing research data in CORA.RDR

Date: Monday, 21 October 2024
Schedule: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Format: Hybrid session, with both in-person and online attendees via Teams.
Description: In the first part of the workshop, we will explain the elements to consider when preparing a Readme.txt file and submitting a dataset to the CORA.RDR repository. In the second part, attendees will be able to prepare their Readme.txt files and/or submit their datasets to CORA.RDR with the guidance of the instructors.
In-person attendees should bring their laptop to the workshop room and have access to the data files they wish to submit to CORA.RDR. Online attendees should also have all their files readily available.  
Important: As the workshop is practical, users who register must have a dataset ready to submit to CORA.RDR during the session or in the days following the session. No attendance certificates will be issued.

Location: The in-person workshop will be held at the Faculty of Medicine (Sala de Juntes)

Let’s play at The Publishing Trap
The Publishing Trap

Date: Thursday, October 24, 2024
Time: 05:30 pm. to 7 pm.
Modality: face-to-face session
Description: is a team-based board game, created by Copyright Literacy UK, that allows participants to explore the impact of scholarly communication choices and discuss the role of open access in research, following the lives of four researchers, from the doctoral search to their academic legacies. The goal of the game is to raise awareness of the need to find a balance between publishing and disseminating research within the scientific community and creating an impact in non-academic contexts.
Aimed at: doctoral students and PDI of the UAB
Location: the game will take place in the Veterinary Library
Language: Catalan and English

UAB Scientific Journals Conference

Scientific Journals Conference ImageDay: Wednesday 23th October 2024
Time: from 10:00 to 14:00
Description: The conference is designed as a meeting point for the editorial teams of the UAB journals to share knowledge, experiences, challenges, etc. and to discuss the topics that the editorial teams consider most relevant. In the registration form, there is a section to list the topics to be discussed during the day. Depending on the number of proposals, the service will make a selection of the hottest topics.
Aimed at: Research and Administrative and Service staff
Mode: In person. Sala de Revistes of the Biblioteca d’Humanitats. Edifici de Lletres, UAB.
Language: Catalan
Registration: In order to attend the conference, it is essential to register before 14 October by filling in this form.
