Interlibrary loan service for UAB members
The Interlibrary Loan service allows UAB members (academic staff, students, administrative and service staff, UAB Sphere, Amics de la UAB, and Universitat a l'Abast) to borrow physical materials from other libraries and universities, as well as obtain copies of articles or chapters from titles not held by UAB libraries or unavailable through the Consortial borrowing (PUC).
The Interlibrary Loan service will always prioritise the option that allows you to obtain the document free of charge. If a fee is applicable, the most economical option will always be chosen.
The current rates for the Interlibrary Loan service of the UAB Library Service were approved by the Economic Commission of the Social Council on 17th February 2023.

Level 1
- Documents from institutions with a free agreement.
- Digital documents from Spanish universities that are members of the ICAC agreement and from Catalan institutions that are part of the AIA.
- Loan of monographs from CBUC institutions.
Level 2
- Digital documents from institutions without a free agreement.
- Loan of monographs from Spanish institutions that do not have a free agreement.
Level 3
- Digital documents where the provider institution's rates apply. The user will always be informed of the applicable rate in advance.
- Loan of monographs from institutions in the European Union and other countries.
You can request a variety of materials, including books, journal articles, conference proceedings, theses, audio-visual materials, microfilm, and microfiche.
However, some items may be more difficult to obtain, such as reference works (e.g., encyclopaedias, dictionaries), audio-visual materials, the reserve collection, rare books, paper maps, and printed theses.
To place a request, you will need to complete the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request form, entering your ID number (NIU) and password. If you are using the ILL service for the first time, you must register in advance and wait to receive a confirmation email within 24 working hours (excluding Christmas and Easter).
It is recommended that you provide as much bibliographic information as possible.
Once your request has been submitted, the system will allow you to check the status of your requests, download the requested materials, or contact the service.
To request a renewal, you can either send an email to pi@uab.cat or use the interlibrary loan platform. Just log in with your ID number (NIU) and password, then select the "Request Extension" option.
The average delivery time for physical documents is 6 days, and for digital documents, it is 3 days. For physical documents, the library designated for pick-up will notify you by email once the document has arrived.
Original documents must always be collected from the library specified by the user when making the request.
Payment by bank transfer: You will receive an email notification with the amount to be paid and the bank account details (IBAN: ES96 2100 0424 3202 0002 5001, Caixabank), where the payment should be made. Please include the request number as the reference. Payment must be completed before collecting the documents.
Academic and university staff: Payment can be made via an internal charge to a cost centre.
Documents are available for loan for a minimum period of 15 days.
Items that cannot be loaned are only accessible at the central Interlibrary Loan desk.
