Jesús Moncada Estruga (Mequinensa, 1941 - Barcelona, 2005)
Born in Mequinensa, Jesús Moncada moved to Zaragoza to complete his secondary education and, once finished, stayed there to study teaching. He later left Zaragoza and moved to Barcelona to devote himself fully to literature and painting.
Moncada became known as a writer with the collection of short stories Històries de la mà esquerra, which won the Joan Santamaria Prize in 1971. In 1988, he published his first novel, Camí de sirga, which was a huge success with both the public and critics.
The writer's heirs donated his personal collection to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where it is housed in the Humanities Library. The collection includes literary works, drawings, photographs, professional documentation, and press materials, all of which are available through the website Jesús Moncada: fons personals.
Francisco Rico (Barcelona, 1942-2024)
Professor of Medieval Hispanic Literatures at UAB, Francisco Rico was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy from 1987, as well as a member of the Academia Nazionale dei Lincei and the British Academy.
He donated his impressive bibliographic collection to the Humanities Library, which comprises around 30,000 volumes that collectively represent the entirety of Western literature. This collection notably features the authors and topics that Rico studied throughout his career, leading him to compile a comprehensive and specialised bibliography that gives the collection exceptional uniqueness.
The Humanities Library also received the scientific journals of Francisco Rico, including complete or partial collections of journals that helped expand the collection. Among the most notable journals are Iberida, Revista de Filología Hispánica, Lucanor, and La balsa de la medusa, which are available in our Periodicals Room.
