This database provides full-text access to the books and journals in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) collection. It also includes the subcollections Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics (LNBI).
Cambridge Structural Database (CSD)
A repository of crystallographic structures, mainly obtained via X-ray diffraction. Part of its content is freely accessible online through the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC), while full access requires a licence, which is available on specific UAB computers. For more details, consult the library.
Chemical Safety Library
A collaborative repository of data on hazardous chemical reactions, aiming to raise awareness of potentially dangerous experiments to prevent accidents and enhance laboratory safety.
ChemSpider
A free database by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), featuring over 50 million chemical structures, properties, and related information. It integrates data from hundreds of sources and provides links to original datasets, as well as additional properties and information.
Espacenet: Europe's network of patent databases
Created by the European Patent Office (EPO), this platform offers free access to patents and technical developments dating back to 1836. It contains over 110 million documents from around the world and is updated daily. Free access.
Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology
An encyclopaedia offering detailed articles on chemicals, including properties, manufacturing, and applications. It also covers industrial processes and issues related to health and the environment. For further details, consult the relevant guide.
Patentscope
Provides access to international applications from the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in full-text format from their publication date, along with patent documents from participating national and regional offices. Free access.
PubChem
A database covering organic chemical substances, including their structure and biological activity. It allows for joint or separate searches within its three sub-databases: PubChem Substance, PubChem Compound, and PubChem BioAssay.
SciFinder-n
A platform that integrates various Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) databases, such as CAplus, CASREACT, CHEMCATS, CHEMLIST, CIN, MARPAT, and REGISTRY, alongside Medline. Key features include the ability to search for chemicals by structure, substructure, or reactions. Results encompass various document types, particularly patents. First-time access requires registration from a UAB-networked computer using your UAB institutional email. or any access issues, contact the library.
International Scope
PubMed
A search engine for biomedical literature, covering life sciences, chemistry, bioengineering, and more. Known as Medline when distributed by providers. PubMed is a free resource developed and maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
SciFinder-n
Integrated platform that combines several databases from the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAplus, CASREACT, CHEMCATS, CHEMLIST, CIN, MARPAT, and REGISTRY) along with Medline. It enables searches for chemical products by structure, substructure, or reactions and includes commercial catalogues. Search results cover a wide range of document types, with patents prominently featured. Initial use requires registration from a device connected to the UAB network using an institutional email address. For assistance, contact the library.
Scopus
Renowned for its content and added services, including bibliometric tools and identification of authors and affiliations. It is the world’s largest database of abstracts and citations, updated daily.
