Calendars
Before depositing, please check the specific calendar for depositing doctoral theses.
In this calendar you will find the date that will determine the rest of the dates of the process once the thesis has been deposited and accepted (panel approval, date of the public defence...). That date is the one in column: DEPOSIT (date of validation by the coordinator).
Above all, remember that, if you have already taken advantage of the extensions and the deadline to finish your thesis is close, you must deposit at least two months before the deadline indicated in your online academic record. Also check your PhD programme, as this date may be extended. Remember that you can request the exemption from depositing at least two months in advance by completing the following form. Once your request is resolved by the Doctoral School, you will receive an email with the resolution. The exemption of these two months will not change the deadline date for completing the thesis.
Flowchart of reports
The deadline date for completing the thesis set in your academic record is the date that your thesis must be in ED status, which means that it must be validated by the coordinator of your PhD programme, at most the day before this date. On the indicated date, the coordinator must have validated it (see the video of the flowchart).
- For all thesis deposits: Remember that each PhD programme sets the maximum dates for the thesis deposit. You will find these dates indicated on the website of each PhD programme, in the 'Thesis' tab, section 'Online thesis'. If you have not presented your request to deposit your thesis on line by indicate date, you will have to enrol for the next annual review, as long as you have not exceeded the maximum permitted study period.
- Important! If you want to request a virtual thesis defense, REMEMBER that you must apply two months before the date on which you wish to defend your thesis. Check this section.
- The official date of the diffusion of your deposit is the one that appears in your Inscription and review of your file (Deposit date) and is indicated once the Doctoral School has validated your deposit (OK status for the request). You can check this information by visiting the UAB intranet services page – Research Plan and Doctoral Activities. From this deposit date, you can count a minimun of 20 days to defend your thesis. See the screen shot below:
- See the calendar if your official deposit falls near the dates of Christmas, Easter or the month of August.
- Yes, three months from the date of the dissemination of the thesis.
- If the time limit for the deposit has expired, within the same academic year you must make a new request, but you will not have to pay the fee for the defence again. This is possible as long as the maximum period of permanence in the doctoral program has not been exhausted.
- If the time limit for the deposit has expired and a new academic year has begun, you will need to register for the next annual review (see the registration calendar) and pay the corresponding registration fee. The new deposit request means that you will have to pay the fee for the defence again. This is possible as long as the maximum period of permanence in the doctoral program has not been exhausted.
(Academic years run from 1 October to 30 September)
