Workshop on Energy Sufficiency

Organised by ICTA-UAB and the Jacques Delors Energy Centre

Date: Friday, 14th July 2023
Time: From 14.30 and 16.30h
Venue: ICTA-UAB. Registration here

Organised in the frame of the H2020 research project FULFILL, this interactive workshop invites researchers, students and citizens to learn more about energy sufficiency and reflect upon ideas on how we can tap into sufficiency’s potential to contribute to the EU’s climate goals.

FULFILL understands sufficiency as “creating the social, infrastructural, and regulatory conditions for changing individual and collective lifestyles in a way that reduces energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions to an extent that they are within planetary boundaries, and simultaneously contributes to societal well-being”. The latest IPCC report identified sufficiency alongside efficiency and renewables as a central strategy on the road to carbon neutrality. EU policies need to start reflecting that reality and harness the multiple benefits of sufficiency.

During this workshop, we want to hear your thoughts and ideas on how this can be achieved:

  • What could you do to decrease your personal carbon footprint and at the same time increase your well-being?
  • Which infrastructures would you need to go further and change your lifestyle in the long-term?
  • What is holding you back?

We are looking forward to discussing policy recommendations and communication strategies with you to let your real life experiences inform the results of the FULFILL research project that will be widely communicated to EU policy makers.

You are warmly invited to take part in this participatory workshop (please register herehttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/1QS_SIQB4h8z-XTNWJ56tXJ1aBqRNARBznZuOIZgT9Wc/edit) and to extend the invitation to your colleagues or fellow students. The event is open to students or professionals under the age of 35 and any field/background is welcome (they do not necessarily need to be energy experts).

If you have further questions, please directly contact Alicia Barbas (barbas@delorsinstitute.eu) or Fiona Breucker (breucker@delorsinstitute.eu).
