De Haro collection

Andrés de Haro Vera was born on December 27, 1925 in Mazarrón (Murcia) and died on September 11, 2006 in Terrassa. He graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of Barcelona in 1958. In 1962 he obtained his doctorate with a thesis related to the testicardine branchiopods. From 1965 he was professor of Zoology (Arthropods) at the University of Salamanca. Later, in 1970, he moved to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, ​​where he worked as a professor of Zoology (Arthropods) and taught the first biologists of this University.

He investigated branchiopods, pygnogonids, oligochaetes and especially formicids. He dedicated a large part of his 50 works published in national and international magazines to ants. He directed 13 doctoral theses. He dedicated a species of ant, Cataglyphis gadeai, to whom his thesis supervisor, Dr. Enrique Gadea Buisán. He belonged to several scientific organizations.

He was passionate about phylogeny, ethology and evolution. He organized international congresses on the first two topics. In 1983 he published the book Introducción a la etología, which was the first textbook on this subject in Spain.

The donation of this collection to the Science and Technology Library was managed by Dr. Tomàs Munilla, from the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology at the UAB.

 
Description of the collection: The personal legacy of the Dr. de Haro is composed of scientific articles in the form of offprints (438) and some books.
