The event included the attendance of Ana Ripoll, Rector of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB); Ingeborg Porcar, Director of UTCCB; Josep Vilajoana, Dean of the Association of Psychologists of Catalonia (COPC); Maite Martínez, Dean of the UAB Faculty of Psychology; Cristina Molina, Director of the Mental Health and Addictions Directive of the Government of Catalonia; and Isabel Ribas, Public Health Delegate of the Barcelona City Council. All highlighted the importance of such a unit, the first of its kind in Spain, which receives the support of two leading organisations as are COPC and UAB.

UTCCB is the first centre specialising in trauma in Spain and is inspired by other centres such as the Senter for Krise psykologi AS of Bergen, Norway, the Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma of Jerusalem, and the Northern Ireland Centre for Trauma and Transformation of O'magh, all internationally renowned centres dedicated to providing support for victims of traumas.
Professionals working at the unit offer 24-hour support, 365 days a year, by phone (900 10 15 80) and by email (info@utccb.net) to individuals, families, groups of victims, public and private organisations, and to the society in general.
It is available for all types of cases of crises and/or traumas and was created with the purpose of offering specialised and highly qualified psychological assistance, both immediately after and in the cases of assessments or follow-ups.
The unit is made up of three main pillars: assistance and intervention, teaching and research, and consultancy. Thanks to the collaboration between the UAB Faculty of Psychology and the Association of Psychologists of Catalonia, UTCCB also aspires to be a knowledge transfer centre, offering the latest techniques and methods in crisis intervention. With regard to the area of consultancy, UTCCB offers support to all types of public and private organisations, from schools and small and medium sized firms to multinationals and administration departments at all levels.

The new unit is the result of a collaboration between Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Association of Psychologists of Catalonia (COPC), and the Institute of Trauma, Crisis and Conflicts of Barcelona (ITCCB).
