Through the new Socio-Educational Mentoring programme for high-school students, these young people from Cerdanyola del Vallès and Badia will be encouraged to have more academic motivation.

Mentoria Secundària

The Socio-Educational Mentoring programme in high-schools has as its main aim to promote educational success among the high-school students from Cerdanyola and Badia del Vallès that are in a situation of social and economical vulnerability and low academic motivation. This programme looks for reducing the academic dislike among these students in order to ensure their permanence in mandatory school, and to contribute in the fulfillment of their academic and personal aims.

Any UAB student can join (from any degree, master, or postgraduate studies) if they are interested in performing an individualized accompaniment with a young person, 13-14 years old, through this social mentoring, to motivate him/her in him/her studies and in other concerns.

The programme uses the tool of mentoring, a process of accompaniment and support between two people. The person acting as mentor offers his/her help when making decisions and in the acquisition of knowledge. Thus, we are looking for facilitating the personal and social development for the person receiving the mentoring, through the establishment of a bond of trust, compromise and involvement. The students that participate play the role of mentors of one of these other students, with whom they organize a weekly encounter that lasts about two hours. These encounters take place in the afternoons, in Cerdanyola or Badia del Vallès, or any surroundings nearby.

How can you become a volunteer?

The Autonomous Solidarity Foundation (FAS) looks for volunteers that want to participate from February to June and that have communicative skills, emotional maturity, and empathy in order to be able to put themselves in the other person’s shoes and establish this relationship of mutual learning.

If you want to become a volunteer, you will have to fill this form with your personal data and specify the programme on which you are interested, in this case, Social Mentoring. You can also contact the team responsible for this programme through email mentoriasocioeducativa.fas@gmail.com or either phone call to the number 634814093.

Social Mentoring

This new program of Social Mentoring in high-schools is now the fourth project of social mentoring carried out by the FAS this year, along with other programmes like CROMA 2.0 with elementary school students, also being part of the socio-educational area. And, also, “Entre Joves”, related to the accompaniment area, helping unaccompanied foreign minors; and the hosting programme with young refugees in an irregular situation, from the area of cooperation.
