UAB is 60 in Europe and 160 worldwide in the Best Global Universities ranking
The ranking, produced by the news media group U. S. News & World Report, classifies the top universities of the world.

The ranking takes into account a total of 11 indicators when evaluating the institutions. The UAB stands out in number of publications (138 worldwide), citations in prestigious journals (142), number of highly cited papers (151), research reputation (155) and international collaborations (172).
With regard to areas of knowledge, the UAB is one of the top 100 universities in six different fields: plant and animal science (62), environment/ecology (76), mathematics (76), economics and business (88), agricultural sciences (95) and physics (100).
The first position in the ranking is occupied by Harvard University, the second by MIT and the third by University of California, Berkeley. All three universities are located in the United States. In Europe, the top three universities are Oxford, Cambridge and the Imperial College of London.
