Seven UAB students will benefit this 2023/24 academic year from the Impuls grants, an initiative of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària and the UAB Social Council, which have been collaborating since 2007 to provide financial resources to students with disabilities to help in their mobility in case they require assistance to get to campus. This aid aims to contribute to the UAB objective defined by Rector Javier Lafuente at the 6th Institutional Day to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities:: "We must ensure that everyone who wants to study at the UAB has everything they need".

Marc Òrrit

The event, which took place this morning at the Rectorat building, was also attended by Marc Òrrit, a student of the Bahcelor’s Degree in Management of Smart and Sustainable Cities, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries of this programme. Òrrit expressed his "sincere" gratitude for these grants, which points out that people with disabilities "are not alone" because, in his words, "there are people and institutions that believe in us". He added that the Impuls grants represent "a good for society as a whole" since the beneficiaries will be able to contribute to social progress by applying the knowledge they gain.

Rector Lafuente declared that he "admires" the will of the scholarship students and encouraged the university community as a whole to report anything that does not work at the university in terms of accessibility and equal opportunities. Rector Lafuente referred to the role played by the PIUNE programme by the FAS and the Observatory for Equality of the UAB, explained that there are currently 850 students with disabilities at the UAB and requested that the administrations provide more resources to universities to meet all the needs of students to achieve equal opportunities.

Also participating in the event were UAB Secretary General Esther Zapater; Vice Rector for Alumni and Employability Anabel Galán; Director of FAS Jordi Prat; and President of the Academic Commission of the UAB Social Council Montserrat López. And, in the same institutional act, Professor Anna Matamala, from the Department of Translation and Interpreting and East Asian Studies of the UAB, offered the conference "Networking for accessible communication: research and transfer", in which she presented the ATHENA project of the TransMedia Catalonia group, focused on research on audiovisual translations and accessibility to information in different media.

Inclusive Artistic Week

In parallel, the UAB is organising these days the third edition of the Inclusive Artistic Week. On 29 November at 12 noon, the UAB Cinema Hall will host the screening of the documentary Venim a crear. Institucions artístiques per a tothom and a debate on inclusive artistic spaces, with the participation of professionals and users of different artistic and educational institutions. And on 30 November at 1 p.m., at the UAB Theatre Hall, an inclusive dance theatre show will take place, entitled Parlem-ne by the Vero Cendoya Company, which received the Award for Best Dance Show at the Barcelona Theatre Awards 2022.
