Three UAB students, awarded for their TFG and TFM on health promotion
Eva González Estévez, Psychology student at the UAB; Alba Sojo Gracia, enrolled in the master's degree in Healthy and Sustainable Lifestyle of the UAB; and Núria Rodríguez Martínez, a student of the master's degree in Advanced Immunology (UB-UAB) have been awarded for the promotion of health and wellness in their Final Degree Thesis and Master's Thesis, in the awards organised by the Catalan Network of Healthy University (Xarxa US.Cat).

On Thursday 12 December 2024 the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) played host to the third edition of the Health Promotion Awards. These awards are organised by the Healthy Universities Network of Catalonia (Xarxa US.Cat) and are awarded in recognition of the talent and dedication of undergraduate and graduate students of different Catalan universities. The award-winners stand out for their contributions to the promotion of health and well-being as stated in the UN's Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages).
A total of six prizes were awarded: three to the top bachelor's degree final projects and three to the top master's theses. The awards consisted in a diploma and a cash prize of 1000 euros.
The winning projects
One of the three bachelor's degree final projects (TFG) awarded was that of UAB Psychology student, Eva González Estévez, for her project entitled "Projecte NAT: Beneficis de la pràctica del senderisme de la població urbana a Catalunya" [NAT Project: Benefits of the practice of hiking of the urban population in Catalonia], which stands out for its innovative proposal to connect nature with urban health. Also awarded in this category were the TFG of Marina Josa Tomàs (University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia) “Physical Activity in Measure of Improvement of Anxious-Depressive States and Social Support in the Elderly”, and the TFG of UOC student Ignacio Macias Martínez "Diseño y desarrollo de aplicación para la detección de señales de alerta temprana de riesgo de suicidio mediante mensajes de texto de redes sociales y técnicas PLN" [Design and development of application for the detection of early warning signs of suicide risk using text messages from social networks and PLN techniques].
As for the three winners in the category of Master's Thesis, these were Núria Rodríguez Martínez, from the Master in Advanced Immunology (UB-UAB), for her thesis entitled "Inducción de diarrea asociada a antibióticos en rata para estudiar el efecto preventivo de un probiótico: puesta a punto" [Induction of antibiotic-associated diarrhea in rats to study the preventive effect of a probiotic: fine-tuning], for her research in a field relevant to human health; Anna Sallés Rius (Rovira i Virgili University, UB, UPC) for her thesis entitled “Pattern inference from sequence collections of textual clinical records using node embeddings and dynamic time warping based algorithm for diagnosis prediction”, and UAB master's degree student Alba Sojo Gracia for her thesis entitled “El sueño como aliado para una vida saludable” [Sleep as an ally for a healthy life], which develops an innovative didactic guide to improve the quality of sleep as a pillar of health.
The evaluation commission was formed by Lluís Capdevila (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Francisco Cegri (University of Barcelona), Albert Giménez (Ministry for Health of the Government of Catalonia), Rubén Gordillo (Ministry for Research and Universities of the Government of Catalonia) and Clara Prats (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) who were in charge of choosing the winning projects among the finalists proposed by the different universities.
