The Barcelona Deep Tech Summit (BDTS) returns for the second consecutive year to place Barcelona at the epicentre of innovation and the most relevant technological change. It will be held on 28 and 29 November at the Palau de Congressos de Fira in Barcelona, and will bring together start-ups, universities, specialised investors, institutions and experts to expose and accelerate the access of initiatives to the market. The event is organised by the Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Activa, the UAB, UB, UPC, UPF and UOC, and is co-organised by the Government of Catalonia, through the Ministry for Research and Universities and the ACCIÓ agency.

The main focus of the summit is to connect the most valuable technology with specialised investors, who can understand the importance of the sector and provide funds to accelerate the arrival of solutions to the market. In order to promote this, several activities are organised, such as a forum where a selected group of early-stage, high-potential start-ups will have the opportunity to give a short talk to specialised investors; meetings between specialised investors and Deep Tech start-ups; as well as individual sessions where start-ups and advanced technology research groups will connect with companies seeking innovative solutions to explore collaboration opportunities.

Throughout the summit there will be an exhibition area (Global Innovation Area) where about fifty start-ups will exhibit their innovations in their own stands. The company Nanoligent, a spin-off of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Research Institute of the Hospital de Santa Creu i Sant Pau specialising in the development of nanotechnology-based cancer treatments, will also participate. Its treatment proposal is based on the targeted elimination of cancer cells that overexpress the CXCR4 receptor, a biomarker of poor prognosis and resistance to standard therapy that is considered key in the processes of metastasis development. The company is developing a new proprietary nanotechnology platform with the potential to overcome the limitations of current treatments based on cytotoxic drug conjugates with antibodies.

The third edition of the Barcelona Deep Tech Award, the prize for the best Deep Tech start-up of 2023, will also be presented. Five previously selected start-ups will have the opportunity to showcase their innovations and a jury of experts will determine the winner. The 2022 award went to Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, a company specialising in analogue quantum computing located at the Parc de Recerca UAB.

In addition, the Joan Roget Knowledge Transfer Awards will be presented, which highlight people, projects and organisations having made an impact during their research career, while also valuing the ability to put their work into practice, as well as the degree of connection with potential users.
