The UAB Solidarity Race in support of La Marató de 3Cat breaks its donation record
The solidarity race in support of La Marató de 3Cat held in December 2024 broke the fundraising record with a total of €35,579.54 raised, which will go to research into respiratory diseases. Never before in the 13 editions of the UAB Solidarity Race had so much money been raised. This was made possible by the 1,500 people who participated by running or walking, the more than 50 volunteers who collaborated, and the organisations that sponsored this solidarity event.
This is the first time in the 13 editions of the race that more than 30 thousand euros have been raised.
The UAB and the City Council of Cerdanyola del Vallès organised, with the collaboration of the decentralised municipal entity (EMD) of Bellaterra and the sponsorship of the University of Barcelona and Applus+ Laboratories, the 2024 edition of the solidarity race in support of La Marató de 3Cat this past 15 December.
Thanks to the 1,500 people who participated in the race and the more than 50 volunteers as well as the organisations sponsoring this solidarity event, a record amount of 35,579.54 euros was raised, which was donated to the Fundació La Marató de 3Cat to be used for research into respiratory diseases. It is the first time in the 13 editions of this race that more than 30,000 euros have been raised.
Thirteenth edition of a solidarity race
On 15 December, the Bellaterra campus once again held a festive sports and solidarity event during the morning of the race, bringing together federated runners, amateur athletes, families and university staff, faculty and students, who, with their participation, contributed to a solidarity cause such as the one proposed each year by La Marató de 3Cat. More than 50 volunteers carried out the logistics and organisation tasks necessary for an event of this magnitude under the coordination of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS).
In the previous edition of the race, held in 2023, 1,200 people and some fifty volunteers participated and a total of 26,583.39 euros was raised, which was given to the La Marató de 3Cat Foundation to finance research projects related to sexual and reproductive health, the chosen theme in 2023.
La Marató de 3Cat master classes return
Soon, the UAB and those responsible for La Marató de 3Cat will once again offer an initiative that aroused much interest among the university community: the master classes of La Marató de 3Cat, which were held in 2017 and 2018 in several of the faculties on campus. In these colloquiums, those responsible for La Marató de 3Cat, accompanied by people affected by the diseases under research and presenters of the television event, explain how a pioneering, innovative and internationally renowned solidarity programme such as this one is created. The faculties of Science and Biosciences and the Faculty of Communication Studies will host a master class in the coming months.
