The UAB offers a course on Morocco and its culture
The course is entitled "El Marroc a casa nostra: taller d'apropament a la llengua i cultura marroquines" and is open to all students of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The new edition of the course will begin on 7 October. A total of 40 places are available and registrations will be open until Tuesday 1 October. Classes will take place Mondays and Thursdays, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. The course lasts a total of 50 hours.
This course will delve into the Moroccan culture, transmit basic communication skills in the dialectal Arabic spoken in Morocco (Darija) and the linguistic features of the Amazigh language. It will also teach how to cook dishes of Moroccan gastronomy, a journey through the history and traditions of the country through three dynamic and participative workshops (one on Darija, one on Amazigh, and one on Moroccan culture).
The course's study plan is divided into three main modules. The first, entitled “Initiation to Moroccan Arabic or Darija”, will last 30 hours; the second, “Initiation to the Amazigh languages of Morocco”, will consist of a total of 10 hours, and the last block will focus on “Culture of Morocco (traditions, gastronomy, religion, etc.)”, lasting 10 hours. To obtain the recognition of 2 credits offered by this course, it is necessary to attend at least 80% of sessions offered in all three workshops.
The communicative method will be used in the language classes, with an emphasis on acquiring oral language skills (oral expression and comprehension). As for the culture workshop, theoretical and masterly contents will be combined with more practical and participative experiences. There will also be a short exam at the end of each of the three workshops and it will be essential to pass them in order to obtain the 2 ECTS credits.
